What do the members of Local 7 do at Bridgestone Firestone in Akron?
At Bridgestone Firestone, there are 5 divisions: Firestone Machine, Computer Center, Research, Polymers, and Akron Technical Center. While in many of these areas our members work in support roles such as skilled trades, we also produce industry related machinery and racing tires.

How long has the work force in Akron been represented by a union?
While the company is celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2000, United Rubber Workers Local 7 has represented its membership in Akron since 1935; from 1935 to 1995 as United Rubber Workers of America and, since the merger in 1995, as the United Steelworkers of America.

The local union office offers an array of services for active employees and retirees. Some of these services are assisting with medical benefits (medicare, comprehensive, PPO, out of network), contract interpretation, negotiations and grievances, workers compensation, retirement benefit issues, and death benefits.
